FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 2018 season came to an end for the Nanook Hockey team on Saturday night when they were defeated 6-2 by the Minnesota State Mavericks in Mankato Minnesota.
This one started off in the right direction for the Nooks as Tayler Munson scored a powerplay goal less than a minute after the Puck Dropped.
The Mavs then responded with two goals in the opening period and four in the third to secure the victory.
Zach Frye scored for the Nooks with a little under two minutes left in the game but it was too little too late.
Frye finished the day with two points after also providing an assist on Munson's goal.
Troy Van Tetering and Justin Woods also finished the day with an assist.
The Mavericks will now advance to the next round of the WCHA Championship tournament, where they will host the Michigan Tech Huskies.
The Nanooks will now finish the year at 11-22-3 overall and will say goodbye to seniors Zach Frye, Justin Woods, Tayler Munson, Nick Hinz, and Austin Vieth.
