FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanook Hockey team was in a good-news, bad-news situation this Saturday.
The Bad news is that the Nooks still haven't gotten a win this season, but the good news is that they were able to tie against the Ninth-ranked team in the Nation.
The Nanooks and the Denver Pioneers skated to a 3-3 tie in the Mile High City.
The Nanooks were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead early on, thanks to goals from Kylar Hope and Ryker Leer in the first period.
A Powerplay goal in the second by Colton Leiter put the Nooks up 3-0, but Denver fought back with one goal in the second and two in the third to tie it up.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in Overtime, so this one was ruled a tie.
The Nanooks are now 0-5-1 overall this year.
Another bright spot to come from this weekend series was goaltender Anton Martinsson, who was named the WCHA's Goaltender of the week.
He faced 70 shots over the weekend and stopped 64 of them, earning a career best 39 saves on Friday night.
Martinsson and the rest of the Nanooks will be on the road again this weekend.
This time they'll be in Minnesota for a two game series against Minnesota State.
