North Pole, Monroe spikers fall in first round of state tourney

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The 2019 high school state volleyball tournament began in Anchorage Thursday, with two Interior teams hitting the big stage.

North Pole

The North Pole Patriots made their first appearance to the state tournament since 1989. The Patriots drew the Wasilla Warriors in the first round and were overpowered, getting swept in straight sets 25-8, 25-11, 25-16. North Pole made a push in the third set, but it wasn't enough, as they struggled to slow down Wasilla's attack. The Patriots aren't done and still have a shot at the state title, but now have to navigate their way through the loser's bracket to do so. North Pole is set to face the Soldotna Stars at 11:45 a.m. Friday.
