FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Among the high school fall sports getting underway in the next few weeks is the 2019 swimming and diving season.
The campaign will officially begin with an All-Schools meet on August 23rd, at the UAF Pool.
The teams will then meet at Hamme for the Lathrop Invite the following weekend. West Valley, Monroe, North Pole, Palmer, Hutch, Valdez and Lathrop will all be competing in the meet.
Throughout the regular season, there will be five more all-school meets here in the Interior between Hamme Pool and the Wescott in North Pole, all starting at 6 p.m.
September 6th - Hamme Pool
September 20th - Wescott Pool
October 4th - Hamme Pool
October 19th - Wescott Pool
October 25th - Hamme Pool
Our local teams will also be competing in the Valdez Invite September 27th, and the Bartlett Invite October 11th.
This all leads up to the Region VI Championships featuring our Interior Teams October 31 through November 2nd.
Those who qualify, will then take on the state championships in Anchorage November 8th.
Last year at state, Region VI swimmers earned 15th berths to the tournament.
West Valley, Hutch and North pole all placed in the top 14 of 22 on the boys side.
On the girls side for our Interior teams, West Valley finished 7th, while Lathrop, Monroe and Hutch also placed at the tournament.
