FAIRBANKS, Alaska - School is nearly back in session and with that, comes high school fall sports.
The first sport to open the 2019-2020 year is cross country running.
The season starts with the West Valley Invitational this Saturday. The girls will kick off at 10:30, with the boys start set for 11 at UAF. The race is 32 hundred meters, and will feature all of our local programs.
The following weekend is the Interior Invitational hosted by Lathrop up at Birch Hill. The girls race will begin at 12:15, with the boys starting at 1 p.m.
An all-schools race will take place August 31st at Chena Lakes.
There will be a couple of out-of-town meets our Interior teams will compete in with the Palmer Invitational, September 7th and the Delta Invitational September 14th.
There will be another all-schools race in Eielson September 20th, for the final regular season meet of the year.
The Regional Championships will take place September 28th at the Fairbanks Golf Country Club.
Those who qualify, will then compete in the State championships on October 5th.
The Monroe girls teams finished 4th in Division II last year, while the boys placed 8th.
In Division I, the West Valley Girls ranked 3rd at state, while the boys finished 4th.
The Wolfpack's Kendall Kramer took the individual crownin the 32 hundred, while Naomi Bailey placed 11th.
Both Lathrop squads also made an appearance to state last year.
