FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The high school basketball is in the rearview mirror and student-athletes begin to look ahead to their collegiate options.
Lathrop Malemutes' guard Ella Roberts will be taking her talents to George Fox University in New Berg, Oregon, a competitive Division III program.
Roberts has been one of the most consistent players for Lathrop in recent years, eclipsing the 1,000-point career mark in February. Lathrop was a real threat as a state championship contender this year, and the Mid Alaska All-Conference member will be joining another strong program.
The Bruins finished 23-6 this season and clinched a berth to the Sweet 16 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. George Fox won the 2009 DIII National Championship, with Kenai-native Lindsay Keener on the roster. The most recent Alaskan to lace up for the Bruins was Julie Litchfield, of Soldotna, who competed from 2014-18.
Speaking of Soldotna ball players, a multi-sport Star has committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Jersey Truesdell took to Twitter earlier this week to announce he will become a Nanook next season. Truesdell, one of the best football players in the state, led the Stars to four consecutive DII State Championships, three as the quarterback. The all-state football player has some game on the hardwood as well.
Truesdell tallied over 1,000-career points, while collecting regional and state honors along the way.
In head coach Greg Sparling's second season at the helm, the Nanooks finished 10-10 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season, reaching the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament.
