Winter season closed for Fortymile caribou herd

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) According to a statement released by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the State of Alaska winter hunting season for Fortymile caribou in all hunt zones will not open on October 27th, 2019. A total fall harvest was 2,582 caribou, which is over the fall and winter quota for all hunting areas.

Tok area Biologist Jeff Gross said, "We were surprised by the level of hunter participation and harvest success."
