FAIRBANKS, Alaska - From singing patriotic songs to reading speeches, a group of 2nd grade students from Weller Elementary School today stopped by the Fairbanks Pioneer Home in honor of Veteran's Day.
Veteran's Day is all about honoring the service men and woman who have served and fought for the United States.
Every year, Kathleen Hovda's 2nd grade class stops by the Pioneer Home to give a little Veteran's Day performance for the elderly veterans and residents.
The class sang a few songs, and read famous quotes from past presidents, along with poems.
Hovda says she couldn't be more proud of her students.
Kathleen Hovda; 2nd Grade Teacher, Weller Elementary School>>: "I just think it's important to teach the young people about the veterans and how much they've sacrificed and that without them we wouldn't have the freedoms that we have today. And so we talk about that a lot and we write about it a lot. And I just think it's important for these future leaders of our country to know how important our military forces are and how much they serve and they sacrifice and we need to appreciate them."
