Warming Fairbanks with kindness, community donates to annual 'warming tree'

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A green Christmas tree in the middle of downtown Fairbanks is offering not only holiday cheer with its twinkling lights - but warmth for the winter.

A tradition now four years strong, is helping to keep the people of Fairbanks warm.

The warming tree is a gift from S Salon to the community. If you're feeling a little chilly on a cold, winter day, simply walk up to the tree, grab something nice and warm, and wrap yourself up.

Stylist Anika Smith said it brings joy to everyone at the salon, “It was fun decorating the tree and putting it up out there, having that just brings warmth to the salon,” she said.

And it’s also considered a blessing for many in community as well. Brittany Rahoi is also a stylist at S Salon, she said whether it’s a pair of socks or scarves, even if it's just one thing, it can make a big impact.

“It just means a lot for anybody out there struggling who needs warm clothes," she said.

Joining together to support the community in the best way Fairbanksans know how - with the warmth of their hearts.

To donate to the warming tree, warm clothing items will be accepted during normal business hours at S Salon, now until December 25th.
