Warehouse roof collapses leaving occupants displaced

FAIRBANKS, Alaska According to a press release from the City of Fairbanks, on Friday, March 27th, at approximately 8:45pm, Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call that a roof of a warehouse had collapsed. Fairbanks Fire Department arrived on scene a short time later and found that the roof on the warehouse at 990 Deere Street had caved in. There were eight units in the warehouse, most of which had occupants.

Fire crews turned power off to the building and made sure that all occupants were safe. The structural damage was substantial and there were also broken water pipes. Red Cross arrived to assist the eleven displaced occupants find housing, but they were all eventually able to secure their own housing arrangements.

The City of Fairbanks Building Inspector will assess the building to determine the cause of the collapse.
