U.S. Army Alaska soldier found dead at North Pole home

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A Fort Wainwright soldier has been found dead at his North Pole home. According to a press release from U.S. Army Alaska, State Troopers found 25-year-old Sergeant Jorden Thomas Williams' body during a welfare check Wednesday at the request of Williams' family in the lower 48.

The report also states that Williams was assigned to Fort Wainwright in November 2014 and had been deployed to Qatar from September 2015 to May 2016 and to Afghanistan from June 2017 to February 2018. He was also a military working dog handler with the 549th Military Working Dog Detachment. He worked with the 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion while at Fort Wainwright and joined the Army from Cambridge, Ohio in December 2013.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal which was awarded for his actions in combat situations, two Army Commendation Medals, a Good Conduct Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a NATO Medal and a Combat Action Badge.

Williams' death is currently under investigation by Alaska State Troopers, and the Army Criminal Investigation Command.
