UAF Chancellor Releases Statement on Sergie Cold Case Arrest

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska State Troopers announced yesterday (fri) that an arrest was made in the murder of Sophie Sergie.
The suspect, Steven H. Downs, was arrested in Maine Friday.
He will be returned to Alaska to face charges of murder and sexual assault.
UAF's Chancellor, Dan White, said quote "Sophie's tragic death was a heartbreaking loss for her family and friends. It sent shock waves throughout our university and local community, and challenged our sense of security. Thank you to the Alaska State Troopers and all of the other law enforcement agencies locally and nationally who never gave up hope of finding Sophie's killer." End quote.
He also announced yesterday that if anyone is struggling with the memories of this tragic event... to reach out for help.
