Two men arrested in connection with a break-in at state and university buildings

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A break in at state and university buildings led to the arrest of two Fairbanks men. According to charging documents, Kelo Smoke, 42, and Stewart Erhart, 36, forced open multiple doors at the Department of Natural Resources facility in Fairbanks and stole two snow machines, power tools, a generator and other items valued at over $25,000.
While troopers were investigating, they located Smoke on the property with some of the stolen items. Troopers arrested Smoke and obtained a search warrant for his house. There they found more of the stolen items.
Erhart came to the property while they were searching it. They arrested him and found a snow machine and generator that had been stolen.
Both suspects were taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center.
