Two charged in Tok armed robbery

On 5/9/2019, Valerie Calip, of Anchorage, and Wesley Sanford, of Anchorage, were indicted by a Grand Jury for Robbery, Theft and Vehicle Theft in relation to an armed robbery on 10/26/2018 at MP 71 of the Tok Cutoff Highway. All the charges are felonies. The Special Crimes Investigation Unit, the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Task Force and the Crime Suppression Unit assisted with this investigation.

On 10/26/2018 at about 1432 hours, AST in Tok received a report of an armed robbery at a private residence near MP 71 Tok Cutoff Highway. AST responded but the suspects left the area in a stolen black pickup truck and a white sedan prior to AST arrival.

Investigation revealed three subjects came to the victim’s residence asking for assistance. One subject produced a firearm and held the male and female victim at gunpoint while the two other subjects began stealing items from the residence, to include firearms and cash. All three subjects left the residence leaving the male and female victim’s tied up inside the residence.

Glennallen AST located the stolen black truck and attempted a traffic stop which resulted in a pursuit to Valdez. The male driver and sole occupant, Todd Margerum, of Anchorage, was contacted and arrested for charges stemming from the pursuit. Charges stemming from the armed robbery were referred to the Glennallen DAO.
