Troopers Identify Man Killed in Christmas Eve Officer-Involved Shooting

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Fairbanks police and Alaska State Troopers shot and killed a local man on Christmas Eve, saying he had a gun and was behaving erratically.
Troopers report they got a call at about 6:20 PM Sunday, stating that a man with a firearm was walking down Marshal Drive off Skyline Drive on Farmers Loop.
Responding officers from the troopers and the Fairbanks Police Department encountered the man near the intersection of the Steese Highway and the Johansen Expressway.
Troopers today identified the man as 20 year old Cody Eyre.
They say that at just after 7:30 PM, he brandished a firearm at officers and they opened fire, hitting Eyre.
Emergency medical personnel took him to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment, but Eyre died from his injuries.
Troopers haven't yet identified the officers involved in the shooting.
