FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A lieutenant with the Anchorage Police Department has been picked to be police chief in Fairbanks. Fairbank Mayor Jim Matherly recommended Lt. Nancy Reeder for the job. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports she accepted an employment offer but that she must pass a background check and be confirmed by the Fairbanks City Council. Reeder has been with the Anchorage Police Department since 1984. She was an officer, traffic sergeant and detective before being named a lieutenant.

On 04-19-18 at approximately 0050 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Christopher Barnes, age 41 of Fairbanks, at a residence on Slater Drive in Fairbanks. Investigation revealed Barnes had an arrest warrant for Violating a Domestic Violence Protective Order. Barnes was arrested on the warrant and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center. Bail was set at $500.

On 4/18/19 at 0827 hours, AST responded to a single vehicle roll-over collision at Mile Post 266 of the Parks Hwy north of Healy. Investigation revealed the driver of an Alsco Van had dozed off (fallen asleep) while driving, failed to negotiate a curve, and ultimately rolled the vehicle over causing minor injury to the driver and significant damage to the vehicle. No other vehicles or property were involved in the collision/roll-over. The injured driver was transported by Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Alaska State Troopers would like to remind all drivers to stay alert and awake while driving.

On 04/14/19 at approximately 2112 hours Travis Tyre, age 55, of Arlington TX, was reported to be a vulnerable adult missing in the Fairbanks area.

On April 18, 2019 at approximately 1430 hours AST searched the area of Tyre's hotel with the assistance of search dogs and handlers from PAWS. At approximately 1545 hours search dogs located Travis Tyre deceased behind a building located on Loftus Road near Geist Road in Fairbanks. The cause of death does not appear to be suspicious. The State Medical Examiner's Office ordered an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.

On 4/16/19 Alaska Wildlife Troopers Sitka Post cited Richard Discher, age 56, of Sitka for false statements on 2018 sport and commercial crew licenses. Investigation revealed Discher had claimed to be a resident in June 2018 prior to having maintained a primary domicile in the State for 12 consecutive months. Discher is required to appear in the District Court at Sitka for the false statement on a commercial crew license. Bail for the false statement on sport licenses was set at $310 in the District Court at Sitka.

On 4/17/2019 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka post, cited Matthew Way, age 32, of Sitka, for no crewmember license in possession while commercial fishing. The citation carries a $270 fine in the District Court at Sitka. The operator of the vessel, Matthew Kinney, age 29, of Sitka, was also cited for employing an unlicensed crewmember. The citation carries a $270 fine in the District Court at Sitka.

On 4/18/2019 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Peter Roddy, age 66, of Sitka, for the unlawful storage of commercial Dungeness gear. Investigation revealed Roddy had left pots in the water after the close of the fall Dungeness season on November 30th, the pots were discovered by troopers on 4/15/2019. The citation carries a mandatory court appearance in the District Court at Sitka set for 7 May 2019 at 2:30 PM.
