School board holds final meeting before summer

FAIRBANKS, Alaska The Fairbanks North Star Borough held their final school board meeting before the summer session Tuesday night.

The board unanimously approved two new union contracts with the Fairbanks Education Association and the Education Support Staff Association, which will stretch over the next three years.

The labor cost estimate for the fiscal year 2020 is about 5 point 8 million dollars.

The board also approved a 1% increase in salary tables over the next three years.

Board member Allyson Lambert praised the efficiency of the negotiations.

"It is fantastic that our administration and the three labor unions can come together and in a very rapid time frame." Lambert said. "It was probably only 5 maybe 6 months at the most and to be able to come up with, which what I think are good agreements for all three parties."

The agreements and salary tables can be viewed at www.k12northstar.org.

The next school board meeting will be held August 20th.
