Rep. Scott Kawasaki speaks about running for state Senate

Alaska Representative Scott Kawasaki (D - Fairbanks) recently announced he will be running for Alaska State Senate in next year's election.

Fairbanks North Star Borough Assemblywoman Kathryn Dodge is the first House candidate to officially file with the Division of Elections.

She'll be running as a Democrat for the West Fairbanks House seat that has been held by Kawasaki.

Kawasaki will be leaving that seat in order to challenge Senate President Pete Kelly in next year's general election.

He says he can give the people of Alaska a problem solver, and plans to work as efficiently as possible.

"I think it's a referendum on what people really want in the State of Alaska and in Fairbanks. They want to see us go down there, they want to see us solve problems, on time, in 90 days and not be there in overtime. I think the Senate President has gone the opposite way of where the people are. I think he's too extreme and I think that we can do better and so that's why I decided to run."
