Man dies after swimming in Fairbanks lake

FAIRBANKS, Alaska Fairbanks Fire Department responded to reports of two people in the lake by Lakeview Terrace at around 9:30PM Tuesday evening. The caller said that one person appeared to have gone under.

FFD responded and with help from the University Fire Department and a dive team from Fort Wainwright located a male body under the surface at 11:50PM. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities the man who drowned was a foreign national who was most likely visiting Fairbanks and next of kin are still trying to be located.

According to Alaska State Troopers the accident is related to swimming and no foul play or alcohol were involved.

Troopers are still investigating the death and working on notifying next of kin.
