FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember the soldiers who have given all for our country. Many people also had the day off to celebrate with friends and family. With rain keeping people from spending the day outside, we went inside to find out what everyone is doing for memorial day, and if their plans had changed because of COVID-19.
"I'm going to stay inside and nap, rest up and cook a little dinner, take it easy," said Fritz Wozniak.
"I went to Catholic Mass for Memorial Day today and gave thanks for my father who was a career Air Force pilot and actually died on Memorial Day a few years ago, and we sang Star Spangled Banner," Nancy James said.
"It definitely has changed for sure. I'm not sure... I don't think Pioneer Park or the movies or any of that is open, so COVID has definitely affected us," Moses Aguiler said.
"I spent the day cleaning the house out because we are getting carpeting in a week. So now we got empty bedrooms and I am going to start getting the dressers out and pulling up carpet," said John Boyarsky.
A majority of the people we spoke with said that the pandemic did not affect their plans but that the rain did put a damper on activities.
