Lakes near North Pole closed because of contamination

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) Two lakes near North Pole have been closed to fishing by Alaska wildlife officials.

AP reports the state Department of Fish and Game announcing the closures of Kimberly Lake northwest of North Pole High School, and Polaris Lake on Eielson Air Force Base.

A chemical compound used for fighting oil fires, known as PFAS was found in concentrations above Environmental Protection Agency advisory levels.
