Kaltag man pleads not guilty to breaking into woman's home and raping her

FAIRBANKS, Alaska A Kaltag man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the village pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday.

37-year-old John McGinty is charged with second degree sexual assault.

Court documents show that he has a history of entering women's houses uninvited, including in two open cases, one in which he laid down next to the victim, but she was able to kick him out, and another where he assaulted a women who was trying to get him to leave.

McGinty has six prior convictions for criminal trespass for entering women's homes.

A court document says the McGinty family runs the airport in Kaltag and according to a trooper, "essentially runs the town of Kaltag."

In the current sexual assault case, he is accused of breaking into the victim's home after she was asleep and raping her.
