FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) is preparing for the holiday season and is offering traveling tips to make this season easier when flying.
According to a press release from the airport, it's recommended that passengers arrive at the airport two hours prior to their scheduled departure. For carry-on items, liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes must be packed in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces.
Another important task FAI advises is to familiarize yourself with TSA procedures. During a TSA screening, passengers may be asked to remove other items from carry-on bags, including shoes, to help expedite the screening process.
Items such as footwear may require additional screening because of how it can appear on the screening machine.
Travelers can visiting www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all to check what items are allowed or not allowed in carry-on and checked luggage.
Airport Manager, Angie Spear is quoted in the press release as saying, “The holiday season is about bringing family and friends together to celebrate and make memories. Our goal is to have the airport experience be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible,” she said.
One final piece of advice FAI gives is if traveling with gifts, wrapped gifts are permitted in checked or carry–on baggage – however, if a wrapped gift poses a safety concern, or alarms the security screening equipment, it may need to be unwrapped for additional screening.
Using a gift bag instead of traditional wrapping paper may also help in simplifying the screening process for gifts.
