High winds cause power outages across Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Not only are high winds responsible for causing a wildfire in Delta Junction - the wind is also responsible for power outages to about 50 outages - at times - affecting nearly 3-thousand homes from Delta to Fairbanks throughout the day.
A power pole was broken early this afternoon on south Cushman street, causing an outage for one local business.
Golden Valley Electric association officials say it would likely take crews several hours to repair.
GVEA officials say high winds knocking trees into power lines has caused most of the outages.
The National weather service has recorded wind gusts of 55 miles-per hour in Delta Junction and 35-miles per hour in Fairbanks.
