Governor to announce potential gas deal with Asia

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Governor Bill Walker is releasing information on a potential natural gas deal with Asia tonight.
According to national media reports, the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation is entering into a non-binding agreement with the China-based Sinochem group to purchase Alaska natural gas.
The announcement comes as the governor is in Asia with President Donald Trump promoting US business interests and addressing security concerns related to North Korea.
The governor is briefing state lawmakers, and will also make statements about the potential deal to the general public.
The state has long sought to commercialize its vast North Slope gas reserves, but has struggled to attract a partner willing to foot the bill to construct a gas line, estimated to cost at least $45 billion dollars.
