Larry Scroggins, 36, of Sunrise, Florida, is being linked to a theft involving the redirecting of Alaskan Permanent Fund Dividends to a series of prepaid cards in Scroggins’ possession.

The Alaska Department of Revenue became aware of the situation after multiple complaints that PFD recipients’ direct deposit information had been altered without their permission.

Footage from a Wells Fargo ATM showed withdrawals made by Scroggins using two of the cards funds were being funneled to.

According to Alaska Department of Revenue criminal investigator Nathan Imes, the PFD is a particularly easy target for identity thieves given that account information is usually only checked once a year.

Scroggins has not yet been charged with any crimes. It is has not been made clear how the information from the PFD accounts was obtained by the thieves.
