Fire erupts at local entertainment venue, Blue Loon

FAIRBANKS, Alaska Popular entertainment venue “The Blue Loon’ is currently on fire at 2999 Parks Hwy. According to witnesses several different fire departments are at the scene: Chena Gold Stream Fire and Rescue, Ester VFD, North Star VFD, Steese VFD, North Pole FD, and University FD along with FNSB Ambulances and the American Red Cross.

As of broadcast the fire is contained and they are in the process of putting out 'hot spots'. The origin and cause of the fire are not known yet but the fire marshal is on scene. It is estimated that 50-60% of the structure has been destroyed.

According to Kate Wool no injuries have been reported in relation to the fire.

Per reports in the News Miner Rob Borland, owner of Ursa Major Distilling across the hwy, said it looked as though the fire started in the awning area behind the business and spread inside.

Adam Wool, longtime owner of the Blue Loon sold the venue recently, with the new owners officially taking possession on Tuesday May 7th, 2019.
