Fewer babies born, fewer people married in Alaska in 2017

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Fewer babies were born and fewer people got married in Alaska last year, according to a state report. The Alaska Vital Statistics Report for 2017 shows nearly 10,500 babies were delivered last year. That's down from about 11,200 births recorded in 2016.

As for marriages, the state recorded just over 5,100 marriages and almost 2,700 separations last year. That's down from nearly 5,300 marriages and almost 3,000 separations reported in 2016. The separation rate was the lowest in the state since at least 1990, according to state and federal records.
