FAIRBANKS, Alaska. (KTVF) A head on collision near mile 161 on the Parks highway ended with a fatality on Friday Afternoon.
Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received the call around 3:31 p.m. on Friday.
According to Alaska State Troopers, a Ford F-350 operated by Jeffrey Sanderson, 35, of Washington was rounding a curve driving northbound when a Nissan Rogue traveling in the opposite direction struck it. The F-350 took evasive action but was unable to avoid the collision.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue died from injuries on scene. The name of the deceased has not yet been released pending troopers notifying next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
The Nissan Rogue had two passengers, who were transported for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. Sanderson, the driver of the F-350 and his passenger did not report any injuries.
Troopers say the weather at the time was blowing, heavy snow and there was reduced visibility, as well as icy roads.
Troopers encourage drivers on the Parks Highway to drive cautiously, due to icy conditions and reduced visibility.
