Fairbanks' new police chief takes oath of office

FAIRBANKS, Alaska Fairbanks' new police chief was at Monday's city council meeting to take her oath of office.

Nancy Reeder is currently a lieutenant with the Anchorage Police Department and will be officially on the job in Fairbanks in the beginning of June.

Many special guests came to Fairbanks to witness the event. The Anchorage Police Department chief and deputy chief joined Reeder as well as US Marshals, Jeff Peterson, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI and US attorney Bryan Schroder.

Also in attendance where many local law enforcement and retired chief Eric Jewkes.

"I am honored to be here," Reeder said. "I want to get to know the community and I want the community to have faith in the police department. I think they do already but I want to build on that."
