Multiple departments responded to help in the fight, including wildland firefighters from the Alaska Fire Service. Crews were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading into the forest.
We were able to speak with the owner of the cabin, Marcel Hall, who says he grew up in the structure. Hall said he was outside when he saw his roof was on fire.
He said he was able to save his cat and cell phone, as well as move a few vehicles, but everything else was lost to the blaze. "I got my glasses, I got my wallet, I got my cat. I mean... I am upset but at least I am not crying... that's for later I guess,” Hall said.
Hall says he thinks the fire started in the stovepipe to his house.
