Fairbanks man found dead after years unnoticed

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A Fairbanks man was found dead in his home after being unnoticed for several years. Paul Pesika died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the associated press, but it's still unclear how long he's been deceased.

Pesika owned a cabin off of Red Fox drive, located near the university, but he hadn't paid his property taxes for years. Eventually, the borough took over the cabin and planned to auction it off.

Over the years, friends, potential buyers, and a borough official tried knocking on the door and peeking around, but never actually went inside. It wasn't until August 21, when a neighbor walked in and found him.

Pesika used to run a non-profit and worked for who was described as a 'powerful' legislator in Juneau, but later in life, became reclusive.
