Fairbanks Police Department Hires New Police Chief

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - In a statement released by the city, Mayor Matherly reported offering Lieutenant Nancy Reeder the position of Fairbanks Police Chief. Reeder is currently a Lieutenant for the Anchorage Police Department, and started her law enforcement career in 1984. She served the Anchorage Police Department as Police Officer, Traffic Sergeant, and Lieutenant for several units. Prior to her career in Anchorage, Reeder served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force for 4 years and 2 years as a Staff Sergeant in the Alaska Air National Guard. According to the city’s statement, “There were several exceptional candidates for this position, and we would like to thank each person that stepped forward to apply.”
Reeder has accepted the position, and is expected to be confirmed at the City Council meeting on Monday, April 22nd.
