Facebook group, Helping Hands, is asking the community for help this holiday season

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Whether it's the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, the Rescue Mission, or the Literacy Council of Alaska, Fairbanksans know how to support their community.
And a charity we feature tonight has even made its way online.
Created four years ago by Tamara Lanmon, the 'Helping Hands' Facebook page is a place where users can post a need, and then someone can help meet that need.
Laura Patterson has been supporting Lanmon and the page since its inception.
After the community helped Patterson, she wanted to give back.
For the holiday season, these ladies are doing something extraordinary.
Patterson thought that if the group could come together to help a family at other times of the year, why not continue that into Christmas.
Laura Patterson; Facebook Group Admin>>: "There are people in our community that have zero things for Christmas. They're not even going to have a tree let alone a present under their tree. I have a basement completely full of stuff for people for Christmas right now. Yesterday was our first really big donation pick up. Carrying the stuff downstairs into my basement, I was just taken back a little bit by the generosity of the community."
The group is in the process of gathering items for local families in need.
If you have any gently used Christmas decorations or toys, or would like to donate your time to help clean, sort and wrap items, you can contact Laura Patterson at 907-799-7288.
