FNSB School Board changes regular meeting start times

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board will now start its meetings an hour earlier.
At the board's October 2nd meeting, members voted to change the start time of regular board meetings from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This change will go into effect at the board's first meeting of 2019, which will be held on January 15th.
Public Relations Director, Sharice Walker, said the adjustment is about making these meetings more accessible to the community.
"The board members really value our interaction with our community members at those board meetings and this is kind of seen as a way to make them a little bit more accessible. We realize a lot of our key stake holders are families with young children or students themselves and sometimes it's tough to get to late night meetings or to stay late for meetings and so making them start an hour earlier, the goal is to make them more accessible,” she said.
Walker added that those wanting to keep up with school board meetings are welcome to join the board in person or they can follow along on KUAC public radio at 89.9 FM or GCI Channel 14.
The school district also live streams the meetings online at http://streaming.k12northstar.org/
