FAI Firing range users must cease use by December 31, 2019

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - In December 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration mandated that Fairbanks International Airport cease use of its firing range located at the end of the runway due to complaints from airport tenants, as well as the undesirable location at the end of an active runway.

A five year sunset date was agreed upon to relocate the firing facility and an interim user fee was implemented for non-employees of the airport or the Department of Transportation. The fee of $1,000 was adopted on July 1, 2016. While the five year sunset date for termination of range use is June 30, 2021, FAI must commence clean-up prior to this termination and the Federal Aviation Administration has agreed that all airport range use must cease by December 31, 2019.
