FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Department of Transportation is hosting an open house Thursday to introduce designs for a Steese Highway and Johansen Expressway interchange. Though construction won't start for a while, DOT wants the community's input on the potential plans.
According to Lauren Little, an engineer manager for DOT, the main goals of this project are to improve drive times and pedestrian safety, but also to ensure DOT minimizes the space they use. She says there are roughly 10 design plans for the public to view.
The open house will be held at the Event Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday December 6. Little told us how the event will be set up.
"We are going to have all of our alternatives available. We can talk about what they do well, what they don't do well. The project website also has all of our alternatives up and so people can kind of walk through them at their own pace," she said.
