FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Through public representation, it was revealed that a possible conflict existed and Monroe wanted to postpone the arraignment until he felt he was properly represented. Judge Lyle determined that the court would continue with the arraignment and would put a not-guilty plea in on Monroe's behalf.
Monroe is charged with the first degree murder of 56-year-old Jose` Raul Santiago and tampering with evidence. Santiago was initially believed to have died from injuries resulting from a car accident north of Fairbanks in November, but the autopsy later determined Santiago died as a result of a homicide.
Monroe will have a hearing this Friday to make sure he has representation, and was told by the judge that he could change his plea if he so desires.
