Nearly 200 business owners, alumni and current UAF students gathered to let their voices be heard about the current budget cuts proposed by the legislature.

President of the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation Jeff Cook spoke about how massive cuts would affect research.

"You got to have the long view. If we are going to have a vibrant state, if we are going to be a leader in Arctic research, and we are on the edge of the Arctic, we can't keep cutting, we can't lose professors that bring in six dollars of research grant for every dollar it costs for us to have them." Cook said.

This was a state-wide initiative, as other rallies with the same message were also held at the University of Alaska Anchorage and in Juneau.
