FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The City of Fairbanks has fully staffed a crew to handle nighttime snow removal. The night crew, which began operating Tuesday night, is responsible for removing snow from the main roads and the downtown core area. They will be working through Friday to complete those tasks.

Day crews prioritize plowing emergency areas and main roads before moving into the neighborhoods. According to Teal Soden, City of Fairbanks Communications Director, this is for the convenience of city residents. “The night crew generally does not work in the neighborhoods because people are asleep,” Soden said. This leaves clearing main roads and other nonresidential areas to the night crew.

Residents should remember to move their vehicles from the rights-of-way when their neighborhoods are being cleared. Failure to do so could result in the vehicle being towed, with recovery at the owner’s expense.

Information on snow removal, including schedules, can be found hereat the City of Fairbanks Facebook page, as well as here at the City of Fairbanks website.
