FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team started off their season with a loss, but it was impressive.
In a match-up with the Holy Names Hawks, the Nanooks lost in double-overtime after the heroics from Alex Baham and Kimble Davis with the score being 82 to 81.
The Nooks started the first half being down by one to the Hawks at 33 to 32, this was despite going to the free throw line only six times in the half.
In the second, the Nooks went to the charity stripe 12 times, and also hit only three threes.
However, one of those threes forced overtime.
Kimble Davis missed a go ahead three with 17 seconds left in the game, but after the Hawks' Kyvonte Davis split a pair of free throws it put Holy Names' lead to three.
After some missed free throws by either side, it left open the door for Alex Baham.
Baham hit a three with eight seconds left to force OT and the game was tied at 64 to 64.
In overtime, the Hawks took a five point lead after Marcelas Perry hit two free throws with 24 seconds left.
Zach Hatch hit a three for the Nooks to cut it to two, but they needed a foul and someone to split the free throws.
They got the split free throws, and Kimble Davis knocked down a three with two seconds left to force double OT.
However, they couldn't force a third extra period, eventually losing the game 82 to 81.
