Alaska State Troopers say that on Monday at 6-10 PM, dispatchers in Fairbanks got a call reporting a tanker truck had hit a pedestrian on the highway near milepost 280.
They responded to the scene and found that the pedestrian, 22 year old Sylvester Smith of Anchorage, had been hit by the tanker truck and killed after he got out of his vehicle to help a snowmachiner on the side of the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver didn't suffer any apparent injuries.
Troopers say their investigation is ongoing.
