Two people are dead after a two-car Richardson Highway collision last night after a vehicle attempted to cross the divided highway.

At around 6:30 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene of an accident at mile 353 of the Richardson near North Pole.

One of the drivers, 30-year-old MacKenzie Barnum, was traveling Eastbound on the highway when a 77-year-old male driver crossed the highway from the south side to the north side.

The two cars collided, killing both drivers.
Barnum's next of kin have been notified.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor for either driver.
The state medical examiner's office will be conducting an autopsy.
