FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Three men are still at large after arrest warrants were issued in connection with the April 'Sourdough express' robbery and assault that left one man severely beaten and duct taped to a chair.
Sarah Dubowski has details in this report.
43-year-old Lautaro "Lito" Rubke, 49-year-old David McDaniel, and 33-year-old Jeffrey Nickoli-Frink are all wanted on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, assault, burglary, theft and misconduct involving a weapon.
Co-defendants 23-year-old Dametrey Rice and 19-year-old Weston Luther are also charged with the crime but both pleaded "not guilty" in Superior Court last week.
According to court documents, on April 17th the Fairbanks Police Department arrived on scene at Sourdough express to find a victim bleeding from the mouth with his eyes swollen shut.
The injured man told officers that he saw what he thought was an intoxicated person on the property.
He said he began trying to assist the stranger when two more men approached him, and all three assaulted him.
He was then bound with duct tape and a bungee cord.
The victim told police the men stole a vehicle and guns.
Investigation revealed the vehicle was tracked to First Avenue, where video surveillance showed men carrying long guns heading towards an apartment.
Police surrounded the apartment, and after a 5 hour standoff, Rice, Nickoli-Frink and seven others were detained.
All 5 men weren't indicted until October 6th.
FPD Detective, Scott Adams, says this case took several months to charge because the method they used to gather evidence took time to process.
Detective Scott Adams; Fairbanks Police Department>>"So through collecting evidence, collecting video of different places, speaking to people for interviews and then sending evidence to the crime lab, whether it be for DNA, fingerprint, whatever various services the crime lab offers, that usually takes a little bit of time."
Detective Adams says judging from the indictment, the three wanted individuals could be dangerous.
Lautaro "Lito" Rubke has a criminal history of Theft and Assault.
David McDaniel has a criminal history of Burglary.
Jeffrey Nickoli-Frink has a criminal history of Assault, Driving under the Influence, Endangering the welfare of a child and vehicle theft.
Detective Scott Adams; Fairbanks Police Department>>"Three subjects are still not in custody, they have outstanding arrests warrants, if you see these individuals, please do not try to apprehend them yourself and contact the Fairbanks Police Department."
Again if you see any of these men, please contact the Fairbanks Police Department at 459-6500.
