NEW YORK (CBS) - Industrial companies, banks, technology and materials firms, as well as energy companies rallied today on Wall Street.
A strong day of corporate results left investors feeling better about the economy.
The S&P 500 advanced more than 17 points to 2,355.
The Dow jumped 174 points to close at 20,578.
The Nasdaq gained nearly 54 points to an all–time high of 5,916.
And the Russell 2,000 index of smaller–company stocks added 17 points to 1,384.
Oil prices were mixed after today's trading.
Benchmark U.S. crude slipped 17 cents to $50.27 a barrel in New York, while Brent crude rose 6 cents to $52.99 cents a barrel in London.
