NORTH POLE, Alaska - A North Pole man has been arrested on first-degree murder charges after his mother was found dead at her house.
Alaska State Troopers say they received a report Sunday that 59-year-old Vivian Osborne hadn't been in contact with her family since Friday. Troopers were also told that Osborne's son, 33-year-old Travis Reed, might be at her house and had been using methamphetamine. They went to the house and found Osborne dead of an apparent homicide. Troopers say they found Reed in a locked bathroom inside the house, and their investigation led them to arrest him for first-degree murder.
Troopers took Reed to Fairbanks Correctional Center, where he remains in custody. Osborne's body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Her next of kin has been notified.
