NEW YORK, N.Y. (AP)- Stocks are little changed after a day of meandering between small gains and losses.
Income–seeking investors bought dividend–paying utilities and phone companies as bond yields fell.
Financial stocks lost ground as those yields dropped, cutting into lending profits.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3 points to 2,378.
The Dow Jones industrial average was off 20 points to 20,914.
And the Nasdaq composite was unchanged at 5,901.
Oil prices edged higher today.
Benchmark U.S. crude rose 3 cents to settle at $48.78 per barrel in New York.
Meanwhile, Brent crude came up 2 cents to $51.76 per barrel.
