FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KXDF)- John Hume, the man accused of assaulting his girlfriend in 2015, had closing arguments for his trial yesterday; and after only four hours of deliberation, the verdict came back, "not guilty" on all charges.

A full room of family members hugged and cried as Hume was set free.
The Defense Attorney, Thomas Temple, of the Satterberg Law Offices, says Hume has been waiting for his chance to tell his side of the story, and is grateful for the outcome.

"I'm pleased; it was a fair verdict," said Temple. "Mr. Hume has been waiting to tell his side of the story for seventeen months, under fear that he was going to jail for a long time for crimes he didn't commit. It's a scary thing to be falsely accused and have the power of the government come down on you. Mr. Hume is thankful for the verdict, I'm glad, and it reaffirms my faith in our last check and balance, that's the jury system. They did a good job here; they worked hard. It was a long trial, going over two weeks. I'm thankful for their service over these two weeks, through the lies and smoke and mirrors they were presented with by the government."
