FOX, Alaska (KXDF)- The Fox water well just north of Fairbanks will remain open and free to the public.
The future of the well was called into question when the Alaska Department of Transportation said they couldn't afford operating costs, and were looking to sell the property.
This prompted numerous local groups and individuals to petition the state agency to keep the well open.
The new agreement will keep ownership under the state of Alaska but the not at the state's expense.
A grassroots group entitled 'Friends of Fox Springs' is working on raising the necessary funds to operate and maintain the well. The group is also pushing for the state to maintain the well.
