ANCHORAGE, Alaska The 34th annual statewide First Alaskans Institute Elders and Youth Conference will be taking place in Anchorage this year on October 16th through the 18th.
The conference in Anchorage will be held at the Dena'ina Center.
This year's theme is called "Part Land, Part Water- Always Native".
Each year the Elders and Youth conference has been striving to understand the issues and challenges about their native culture.
The 2017 theme at the Elders and Youth Conference will be focusing on the identity of indigenous people and the connection with the land and waters of Alaska.
University of Alaska Fairbanks student Baxter Bond says what he is looking forward to the most before he heads down to the conference.

Baxter Bond; UAF Student>> "I'm going to be attending a workshop run by rural student services. I got invited down as part of the Inupiaq dance group. To give high school students a taste of what college is like and why participating in a dance group like the Inupiaq dance group is important. I've been teaching the dance class along with one other instructor so I'm really excited to be able to work with high school students again."
